We were so sorry to read that Steve won't be out in his garden again this Spring. He was so generous to us with his gardening knowledge and his produce during our time on the Island. We always looked for him as we drove along Poplar Rd knowing he was probably somewhere out in the garden he loved and nurtured. Picking raspberries with him was one of my favourite summer activities. Think of all the gardeners far and wide who have seeds or plants in their gardens that came from Steve. He will be fondly remembered by all of them. Rest in Peace.

Growing up in Naughton with Steve and Rita and their family couldn't have been better. I don't think I ever seen him not smiling. Will always have great memories of their camp on Tobacco Lake and Steve roasting us out of the loft in the winter. Taught us the art of proper bread use so you didn't have to do the dishes. Sorry we couldn't attend the service, but are thoughts and prayers are with the family today. Peter

Shifts at Misery Bay, Steve and Rita would come in part way thru the morning, grinning from ear to ear and having hiked already since before anyone else got there. I remember him as frank, kindly and wise. He loved the land.
