Obituary of Bernard Addison Drew

Bernard Addison Drew passed away at the Mindemoya Hospital, Mindemoya, Ontario on Friday, January 13, 2017 in his 93rd year. He was born April, 2, 1924 in Georgeville, Quebec. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Sylvia (Smith) Drew, daughter Judith Land (husband Terry) of Gore Bay, granddaughters Caroline of Edmonton and Mary (fiancé Scott) of Kanata and daughter-in-law Tess Leblanc of Quebec. He is also survived by his sister Jane Curtis of Magog, Quebec. He was predeceased by son Maurice Drew (1992) brother Norman Drew and his parents Courtland Drew and Myra Packard. Bernard was a life-long farmer on the Packard family farm in Georgeville, Stanstead Township, Quebec. He achieved a high school education graduating in 1942. He was active in his community serving as a councillor for 6 years and he was the first Township Health and Building Inspector. He drove school bus for the Regional School Board for many years and was proud of his 750,000 accident free miles at the time of his retirement. He was an Elder in the Georgeville United Church, a founding member of the Georgeville Historical Society and in 1997, he was Chairman of the Georgeville Bicentennial Committee. He came with his wife Sylvia to Gore Bay in 2012 and continued to make new friends. Always the farmer, he enjoyed sharing his apples, rhubarb and his flowers on his porch. As per Bernard's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday July 2, 2017 at the Georgeville United Church in Georgeville, Quebec, followed by a reception at the Murray Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory could be made to Lyons Memorial United Church, Gore Bay, Ontario P0P 1H0 or to the Georgeville Community Association.
