I know Roger is deeply missed by all his family members. Although I am an Aunt of Roger's he was never allowed to call me "Aunt" as he was a bit older than me. Not often did he miss the opportunity to introduce me as Aunt with a little twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. A bit of a joker at heart but one of the most considerate and helpful people I know. Coming from a small family it was always amazing to see how seamlessly Roger fit in and accepted our large crazy Burns family.
Roger was taken from us far too early and will be missed and remembered forever in our hearts.

Dear Lynn,
It is Sally here, Roger’s cousin.
I don’t know if you remember me but a long time ago I emailed Roger
and you kindly replied to it.
I am so very, very sorry to hear about Roger’s illness and passing.
My family send many sincere condolences.
I absolutely adored Roger when I was a little girl and was fascinated by him
and his sayings.
He was kind to me then. He would play house with me when my brother wouldn’t.
I am not surprised he was a considerate, generous adult and loved by family,
friends and neighbours.
Last weekend Amanda forwarded some family photos to me and oh! boy, was he
handsome.
Over the last year we have been actively involved in researching our family
tree. A cousin of ours came over from Australia and we swapped notes but
Sue, Ali and I think he is on the wrong trail.
We can go back to 1721 with the name Kerr. Roger therefore was in our minds
frequently.
Alison informs me that you and Laura are coming over next year.
I will really look forward to meeting you finally but sad that it is under
these circumstances.
I will try to attach a picture of Rog with his Mum and grandparents, my
parents, David my brother and myself pulling an agonised face on Llandudno
pier!
All our love, from family in N.Wales.

It is amazing that Roger and Lynn found each other. He needed a family and the Burns clan wrapped around him like a cozy blanket.
Art and I were lucky enough to see how much love he was surrounded with when we visited Gore Bay and met them all.
We have many happy memories of times together. We always ended up in fits of laughter. Lynn with her quick wit and Roger with his wonderful stories. He was a natural storyteller. One would start with, “you know, that reminds me of this guy” and that story led to the next and the next.
He was a delightful, charming, gentleman who we will miss very much.
Our hearts and love are with you and your family Lynn.
Love Katherine and Art xox

Lynn, we are deeply saddened by your loss.
Roger and I met in high school, we made friends fast with a group of boys who still remain friends today. He was the the master of the story, with an infectious laugh,a great sense of humour, and knew more about Mississauga than "Hazel".
Whether it was road trip down south or a campfire up north, Roger held court with his band of Brothers.
We were very fortunate to have spent some time with Roger, Lynn and her family a few weeks ago, where we were shown true Island hospitality. Together they built a beautiful home on Manitoulin Island, and managed to capture the raw beauty of it.
You were a good friend to many, but to us you were more " a Brother"
You will be missed, but never forgotten!!!
Your Brother Mark & Ruth

Lynn, we are so heartbroken with Roger’s passing, you have all our love and support. We feel so fortunate to have visited with you and Roger in September. I’m so pleased you shared my letter of cherished memories with him and what Roger meant to me for the past 60 years as my very close friend and buddy. I loved him so much, we never lost touch over all these years no matter where or what we were doing. I will miss so many things we did - the birthday/catchup lunches at Switzers, our phone calls checking in with each other, his smile, his laugh and his loving caring soul. He was a friend to the entire Edward family growing up. I will never forget him.
Lynn, you have been an amazing wife, you gave him an incredible life full of love and memories. We love you, we love your wonderful family who were so great to him and I was well aware of how much he loved them too! We will always be there for you. The ‘boys’ will regularly reminisce about Roger and our experiences we all shared......he will always be part of me. He will always be my brother forever......Love to you.....xoxo

Lynn;
My sincerest condolences. While Roger and I were not close at high school or after, I always had huge respect for him, and held him in the highest regard. In 2008 we had a group of motorcyclists ride to Manitoulin Island and stay for a few days. When Roger learned of this he immediately stepped up and took care of all our lodging needs. He made arrangements for all of us, and was kind enough to join us for dinner one night.
I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Lynn,
Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family with the loss of your Roger. You have all been a tower of strength in your love and devotion to him, never giving up hope, always trying to find a solution, which Roger appreciated. Please know how much we love you and Roger, we share in your grief and sorrow, and we will always be there for you, now and in years to come.
Lynn, Roger was your soul-mate and together, you built a wonderful life – the happiness was written all over his face. Roger was very fortunate to be part of the Burns family, who loved Roger unconditionally as their son, brother and best friend.
Roger touched the heart of those who crossed his path as he was caring, thoughtful, earnest when he needed to be, funny and quick-witted with a good sense of humour when the moment arose, knowledgeable, respectful, compassionate, trustworthy, and loyal. He was an honest and hard-working individual who exemplified the old saying ”you get what you give” and in return, he got a lot of love and respect from those he has touched. These qualities made Roger a genuine incredible human being. Everyone wanted to be his best friend.
I admire Roger for all these great qualities and was honoured to have him as a life long friend for the past 60 years, and Julie was honoured to have him as a friend for the past 27 years.
I find myself constantly reminiscing about all of the special memories I have experienced knowing Roger for most of my lifetime: growing up together in Lorne Park, Mississauga; working for Roger at his first business venture in high school; living together on Doulton Drive; road trips together to Myrtle Beach, Johns Town Pennsylvania; Peterborough to Georgian Bay houseboat trip; and countless weekends in Muskoka & Haliburton. More recent cherished memories and one of my favourites, is the 60th surprise birthday party you had for Roger at your Lake Kagawong home. “The Boys” and I got to meet your wonderful family, experience their very generous hospitality and love for Roger, as well as see and enjoy the beautiful Manitoulin Island lifestyle and place that you and Roger call home.
Both of us will continue to cherish memories of Roger and you at past gatherings, dinners, and parties and in the future. We were so fortunate to visit you and Roger in September at your beautiful newly built home which has yours and Roger’s stamp on it in every detail. Thank you for sharing Roger with us during that time - It meant a lot to us. Even though Roger wasn’t feeling the best, he wanted us to enjoy ourselves, and mustered up the strength to take us on your pontoon boat for a lovely ride around Lake Kagawong to proudly show us what you have built together - your paradise, filled with love for each other and for your dog, Baxter. That's Roger, always unselfishly thinking of others.
We hope these thoughts give you some peace and comfort in knowing that Roger has made such a positive impact on us in many ways and will continue to do so. Roger is gone too soon but forever in our hearts.
All our love,
‘Brother’ Bruce and Julie

Lynn, thank you for including in Roger’s obituary the close bond that his “high school buddies” have been so fortunate to share with him. There have been many notes between us this past week and there is a common thread in all of our thoughts that reflect on just how much he was admired and so truly loved by all of us.
His tremendous sense of caring for what everyone was doing in their lives and his wonderful sense of humour along with that incredible chuckle/laugh and smile was so unique to Roger and I’m thankful to have that as a memory that will always be with me. Love from his “brother” Dave.

We’re sending endless love and hugs to you and all of your family, who Roger loved unconditionally, with all his heart!!!
He was a gorgeous man inside and out who I loved very much and some funny memories have been rolling in...Did you know that he came up with what would become my life long nickname...(yah, thanks Rog). A few of ‘The Brothers’ (I need mum or Trixie to tell me who) were chasing me around and laughing as I giggled but when I got scared, Rog scooped me up onto his shoulders and as he ran out of the house he shouted in his very deep voice “Hey Lolly Gogs, Lolly Gogs, Lolly Gogs, Hey Lolly Gogs, Lolly Gogs, Lolly Gogs, I’ll save you”...very galant but from that moment on I was Lolly Gogs to EVERYONE.

Reading of Roger’s passing felt like my spirit had been dropped and shattered. I was blessed to have Roger in my life, he taught me so many important truths. Roger believed that planting trees was not only our duty but our privilege. I learned the joy in the efforts of planting a tree and the pleasure of enjoying my time with dear friends beneath the very same trees. Planting trees was our way of guaranteeing a better future ahead. Planting trees give us hope. Roger you taught me that when thing got tough but nothing else could be done, go fishing. On the water laughs come easy and the beauty washes away our struggles. Coming back to those very same struggles, you will be stronger, clearer and ready to take on anything. There is always time to go fishing you told me. Roger I will miss our conversations, your laugh, your clarity and your gentle kindness.
